The problem with this picture: the sunlight shines from the right side of it. (High)lighting that correct 45 degree croup, but the rest of the dogs is (literally and figuratively) kept in the dark. Not many details can be seen. With size I mean bodymass. Compare Duque with for example the other mastines on that 2004 BdL and you'll see that his size is not above-average. rather a bit under the average.
Hmm ... do you really mean excess (as in: "not just enough, but much more of it"), or rather an amount of mass that is out of proportion with regards to height/lenght of body ? Or as in "too heavy for any MastÃn Espanol " ??
apart from the fact that I unlike most of the dogs presented in the shows and I think that some of them are not mastines, I dare say this dog has a big rib cage for his size and probably he's overweighted (something very common in this shows).
